Episode 1: Los Angeles Public Library

LAPL Central Library construction, south side, 1926. Los Angeles Public Library Photo Collection.

OUR VERY FIRST PODCAST EPISODE. YOU MADE IT!

Almost as old as the city itself, the library system in Los Angeles has been the structural backbone of the city’s growth as it expanded outwards, unlike any city in the country.  We discuss the early librarians that set in motion the progressive nature of the library, the spaces that were occupied, Central Library’s design as well as the branches own charred history, and the almost consistent boundaries of late fee charges (this podcast was made in lieu of payment of fees)

Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) is an organization that we’ve been involved with in different ways for many years, and were extremely excited to do research on and discuss.

We hope you enjoy it. If not, shut up.
