Episode 11: Monsters and The Nerds That Love Them (Universal Monster Movies and Forrest Ackerman’s “Famous Monsters of Filmland”)

Even the Frankenstein monster, a permanent resident of Universal Studios Tour Center, responds to the friendliness of the studios' many visitors, ca. 1966. Los Angeles Public Library Photo Collection.

In this spooky episode of L.A Meekly, we cover the history of the classic Universal Monster movies, including the studio, the actors, the characters, the addictions, the wives and the juniors, all in an attempt to gain free tickets to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights (update: they gave us free tickets but they said we had to pay to park so we said stick it)

We also cover the legacy that superfan Forrest J Ackerman built with his magazine, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, his house and the mag’s headquarters, THE ACKERMANSION, as well as every pun we could spit up.  Uncle Forry would’ve been impressed.

Happy Hallomeek!
